The IPL team Punjab Kings has been performing well under its new skipper Shikhar Dhawan aka Gabbar who has played an important role in his team’s victory in the second match against Rajasthan Royals. Though PBKS won the match by just 5 runs yet every win counts in this tough and competitive tournament and the Punjab franchise will certainly like to continue like this and win the trophy as it is one of those few franchises that haven’t won a single IPL title despite being associated with the league since its inaugural edition.
The match was played at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, on 5 April 2023 and after winning the toss, RR chose to bowl first. While skipper Shikhar Dhawan played a brilliant knock of 86 runs not out (56 balls, 9 fours & 3 sixes), his opening partner, 22 years old young cricketer Prabhsimran Singh played a smashing knock of 60 runs for which he faced 34 deliveries and his innings included 7 fours & 3 sixes.
While talking about his innings with his teammates, Jitesh Sharma revealed that while they both were at the crease, the skipper Shikhar Dhawan advised him to exchange the strike as the youngster has never faced the Kiwi pacer Trent Boult. However, Prabhsimran refused to do so and insisted on taking the strike. He said that the skipper supported him well and after every over, he told him to play his natural game and not to worry and he (Shikhar) would take care of everything.
The young Punjab cricketer faced 10 balls from Trent Boult and scored 14 runs which include a four and a six as well.
PBKS will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on 9 April at Hyderabad and hopefully Prabhsimran Singh will once again like to play a match-winning knock.
