India all-rounder Shivam Dube has come out strongly in support of T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav who has not scored a half-century in the format since October 2024. As scrutiny builds with less than two months to go for the World Cup, Shivam Dube urged everyone to look beyond recent numbers and remember the quality SKY brings to the team. He felt that players of his class cannot be judged by short phases and reminded that SKY has the ability to turn matches around single-handedly, often doing so repeatedly when in flow.
Shivam Dube explained that Suryakumar Yadav’s value goes well beyond the runs column. He described him as a rare and fearless batter, someone capable of playing shots others cannot even imagine. According to Shivam Dube, such players can change the course of a game at any moment and it is only a matter of time before his form clicks back into place. He also highlighted SKY’s fighting mindset, noting that whether he scores big or not, his intent and commitment to the team never change.
The all-rounder also extended his support to vice-captain Shubman Gill, who has been facing a quieter phase in T20 internationals. Shivam Dube pointed out that even during lean patches, Gill’s overall numbers remain impressive, underlining his consistency and long-standing contributions for India.
Looking ahead to the home World Cup, Shivam Dube believes the Indian squad is largely settled and well-balanced. He feels major changes are unlikely, though final decisions will rest with the team management and selectors.
On a personal front, Shivam Dube shared that he has spent the off-season working hard on his fitness. He said that regular discussions with bowling coach Morne Morkel have played a key role in helping him improve and feel more confident heading into this crucial phase.
