The world is leading towards a worse state and we really don’t need to prove this fact since it’s clearly apparent on account of many shocking and disgraceful incidents happening around us every now and then. One such shocking incident took place in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu where a student of 4th class lost his life following a trivial fight over a geometry box with some other students of the class. It was on 29th February that Surya studying in a govt. school in Kollapalayam engaged in a brawl with classmates to which the teacher asked them to move outside instead of fighting inside the classroom, as reported.
The fight began outside and the boy’s classmates hit on his head using a stick. Later when Surya reached home, he was not feeling well and told the same to his mother. His parents moved to Tiruchankoodu hospital for his treatment but authorities there recommended them to Salem’s District head hospital and it was the place where he became unconscious and went to coma.
He was in coma for several days and it was on Sunday that he finally lost battle between life and death. After his demise, a protest took place by human right activists and relatives of Surya to demand justice. Murugesan, the boy’s uncle, is of the opinion that it was due to carelessness on the part of the teacher that Surya is no more and if she had taken appropriate action and ended the brawl, it would not have happened.
An activist Rangasami has the similar views in this connection; in her words, “She was sleeping inside the class when this fight happened and she failed to control the students. After Surya was hit on his head and chest by his fellow students, he came home and felt severe pain and told his mom. He was shifted to Tituchankodu hospital and then to Salem hospital, but he lost his life.”
The activist has made a demand of compensation for family as well as proper action against each and everyone responsible for the demise of Surya.
Even if the parents got compensation, money can never give them their son back and the biggest loss can never be repaid. If the teacher is really guilty in this case, she must be punished as she has caused some people loss of a lifetime just for some moments of her relaxation and no matter how hard Surya’s parents try, this pain won’t let them live happily.
