India endured one of their worst defeats in T20I cricket as England thrashed the reigning world champions by 125 runs in the second T20I at Trent Bridge on Tuesday. After the crushing loss, captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that the team’s performance was far below expectations and called for an honest assessment ahead of the remaining matches.
The defeat is India’s biggest ever by margin in the T20I history. It also extended India’s winless run under Shreyas Iyer, who recently took charge of the T20I side during the Ireland series.
Chasing a challenging target of 202, India’s batting line-up collapsed under pressure and was bowled out for just 76 in 11.4 overs. The visitors never recovered after losing early wickets and failed to build any meaningful partnerships.
Speaking after the match, Shreyas Iyer described the performance as unacceptable and said the team must first accept the defeat before returning to the drawing board. He felt the pitch was not worth 200 runs but admitted India’s poor start with the bat left them with too much to do. The skipper also said the team failed to adapt to the conditions and could not execute its plans, especially against England’s hard-length bowling.
Despite the disappointing result, Shreyas Iyer urged his teammates to move on quickly and focus on improving. He stressed that every player needs to take responsibility and find ways to contribute more effectively in the upcoming matches instead of dwelling on the defeat.
The England skipper Harry Brook praised his bowlers for executing their plans perfectly. He said the team had identified early that bowling on a hard length and targeting the stumps would make scoring difficult on the Trent Bridge surface. That strategy worked brilliantly as Josh Tongue and Jofra Archer ripped through the Indian batting line-up, sharing seven wickets between them.

England’s dominant all-round display helped them secure a memorable victory, while India will now look to regroup and bounce back after one of the heaviest defeats in the history of their T20I team.
