Shreyas Iyer Shares The Struggles Faced Due To The Injury, “It Was A Different Challenge”

It wasn’t an easy road back but Shreyas Iyer has turned one of the toughest phases of his career into a story of resilience and determination.

The Punjab Kings skipper went through a serious setback during India’s ODI tour of Australia in October, when he suffered a spleen injury with internal bleeding during the third match in Sydney. The injury forced him out of action for weeks and kept him away from the game for nearly three months.

During this period, Shreyas Iyer revealed he lost around seven kilograms due to the severity of the injury. While he managed to recover physically within a couple of months, getting back to his original fitness level was a different challenge altogether. Regaining the lost weight required discipline, effort and patience, something he embraced fully.

He admitted that coming back from such an injury is never easy but he enjoys pushing himself through difficult situations. For him, the recovery wasn’t just about returning to cricket but also about proving to himself that he could overcome a demanding phase.

Shreyas Iyer made his comeback in early January, giving him enough time to rebuild his rhythm and prepare for the upcoming IPL season. Now, as he steps into the IPL 2026, he feels ready and motivated.

With expectations running high, Shreyas Iyer sees it as an exciting challenge rather than pressure. His focus is clear — winning matches and ultimately lifting the trophy. He also highlighted the team environment, describing the IPL season as a time when players come together like a family for two months.

For Punjab Kings, having their captain back in full fitness is a huge advantage. After a long recovery journey, Shreyas Iyer now looks ahead with confidence, leaving the struggles behind and setting his sights firmly on success.
