Shubman Gill’s steady rise in world cricket has been built on elegance, patience and an ability to overcome difficult moments. Over the last few years, he has grown into one of India’s most reliable young batters but the neck injury he suffered recently forced him into a pause he didn’t expect. Now after weeks of recovery, Shubman Gill has finally spoken about the road back, offering fans a glimpse of both his struggle and his determination to return stronger.

In a pre-recorded video released by the BCCI from Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence, the facility previously known as the National Cricket Academy, Shubman Gill explained that he was feeling significantly better after undergoing several rounds of training and skill work. The injury had hit him during the first home Test against South Africa, where a nerve issue in his neck left him in sudden discomfort. Although he tried to bat through the pain, he was eventually ruled out halfway through the match. He ended up spending a day in the hospital and then weeks under supervised care at the CoE, missing not only the remainder of the Test series but also the three ODIs that followed.
Speaking calmly in the video, Shubman Gill said that he felt a big difference from the day he arrived at the centre. He described the recovery process as intense but reassuring, noting how each session, whether skill-based or fitness-oriented, helped him feel closer to full strength again.
He also couldn’t stop praising the facilities at the Centre of Excellence. For him, the place felt like an athlete’s ideal environment, where physical recovery and mental reset go hand in hand. He talked about access to advanced recovery tools such as cryotherapy, oxygen chambers and several machines so specialised that he joked he didn’t even know how to operate half of them. To him, the size and sophistication of the setup reflected how much Indian cricket has grown.

Shubman Gill ended the message on a nostalgic note, remembering how, when he was younger, a call-up to the NCA was considered a badge of promise, a sign that a player was among the most talented prospects in the country. Standing there now, using the upgraded facilities to heal and prepare for his return, he said the feeling remains just as special.
