Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian cricketer who is an integral part of the Indian team in the current times is the number one T20 batter and in the second T20I, he has played an innings which proves that he is not just a good hitter but also a mature and calm cricketer who has the capability to adjust as per the situation.

The second T20I was played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, and it was a low-scoring game as the pitch helped the spinners a lot. The Kiwis won the toss and chose to bat first but the Kiwi batters were not able to score freely on the spin-friendly pitch and they scored 99/8 in their stipulated 20 overs. In reply, the Indian batters were also troubled by the Kiwi spinners and Shubman Gill (11 runs, 9 balls, 2 fours) got out in the fourth over when the team’s score was 17 runs. Ishan Kishan (19 runs, 32 balls, 2 fours) and Rahul Tripathi (13 runs, 18 balls, 1 four) tried to stabilize the innings but they both were also back in the dug-out by the 11th over. While Washington Sundar (10 runs, 9 balls, 1 four) returned early, Suryakumar Yadav (26* runs, 31 balls, 1 four) played a patient and mature innings and stayed at the crease till the end with Hardik Pandya (15 runs, 20 balls, 1 four) and ensured that his team went home as the winner.

It was quite interesting to note that not a single six was smashed in this T20I match and Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his innings.

After the match when Suryakumar Yadav was asked in a press-conference as to how he manages to keep himself calm in pressure situations and finish off the match on a regular basis, he jokingly said, “T20 Ranchi me chalu huya tha toh calm attitude udhar se hi aaya” (As T20 started from Ranchi, so this calm attitude came from there only). The first T20I was played in MS Dhoni’s hometown Ranchi and as Dhoni is known for his calm and cool attitude, SKY gave a Dhoni reminder with his answer.

He further says that he feels he has played in domestic cricket a lot before making his international debut and it has helped him because he has played in difficult and challenging conditions and learnt many things in that phase. He has also learnt a number of things by watching senior players and by having conversation with them as to how they deal with difficult situations.
