Despite a commanding 295-run victory in the first Test under Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership, India struggled in the subsequent matches. The hosts rebounded strongly, securing wins in the second, fourth and fifth Tests, including a dominant 10-wicket victory in the pink-ball Test and decisive margins in the final two games.

Throughout the series, India’s batting unit faltered, managing to score more than 200 runs in an innings only three times. This lack of consistency with the bat was identified as a key factor in the team’s defeat. Sourav Ganguly emphasised the critical role of batting in Test cricket, remarking that Test matches can’t be won by scoring just 170-180 runs. He stressed the importance of setting significant totals, ideally in the range of 350-400 runs, to secure victories. He refrained from singling out individuals, calling on the entire batting unit to contribute consistently.

Indian star Virat Kohli’s struggles were particularly noticeable as he managed just 190 runs across nine innings. Sourav Ganguly expressed surprise at Kohli’s form, given his stature as a prolific batter, but voiced confidence in his ability to overcome the challenges he currently faces.
