The current bowling coach of Colombo Strikers, Chaminda Vaas who once lead the Sri Lankan pace attack gave an interview in which he shed his opinion on various aspects.

Chaminda Vaas states that preparations of his team are pretty good as local players joined earlier. Though overseas players came after fulfilling their national commitments, still their preparations are on track. When he was asked to why Babar Azam is not leading the team, Vaas stated that Babar Azam wanted to play as a batter and they respected his decision and Niroshan Divkwella will be leading the team. Chaminda Vaas adds that everyone knows Babar Azam is the number one batter of the world and the manner in which he performs and contributes towards the team is just amazing.

When Chaminda Vaas was asked about the slow strike rate of Babar Azam, the former Sri Lanka pacer states that the head coach Simon Helmot and assistant coach Jerome will discuss and see how to get the best out of Babar whose main job is to get runs at the top of the order.

When Chaminda was questioned about Virat Kohli and whether he will be able to perform in the same manner as he used to do 4-5 yrs ago, he said that the problem is that people want Virat Kohli to perform in every match which is impossible. He added that Virat Kohli performed well in West Indies also and he wants to contribute more towards the Indian cricket. Vaas further drew similarities between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar and said that Sachin also faced the same thing as in the later part of his career, everyone wanted him to perform in all the matches which was not possible.

In response to the question whether Virat Kohli will be able to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record, Chaminda Vaas says that records are meant to be broken and Kohli is still young and he is sure that Kohli will perform well for the country in the future as well.
