Before the start of the Oval test match, many from the cricket fraternity of England were of the opinion that the English team would certainly win the test match but the Indian cricketers proved them wrong and won the match by 157 runs.

As far as the match is concerned, the toss was won by the hosts and they decided to bowl first. The Indian batting somehow managed to score 191 runs in the first innings as the England bowlers were literally on fire and in response, the England team put up a total of 290 runs on the board. However in the second innings, the Indian team batted brilliantly as Rohit Sharma scored a century (127) and three batsmen made half-centuries – Cheteshwar Pujara (61), Rishabh Pant (50) and Shardul Thakur (60). The Indian team made 466 runs in the second innings and gave a target of 368 to England which they had to score in 90 overs. The target was not difficult for the English players considering the fact that they have strong batting lineup but the Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly and wrapped the second innings of England for just 210 runs.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) also congratulated the Indian team on its official Instagram handle for the brilliant win at Oval as it was their first win at this venue since 1971.

The ICC posted a photo from the match with the caption, “India conquer The Oval – their first Test win at the venue since 1971”.

This gave a chance to the Indian cricket fans to troll Stuart Broad by asking him to comment on England’s defeat in the Oval test match.

Taking a dig at the English cricketer, a fan commented on the post made by the ICC, “Hey @stuartbroad you told that England will win this match on the first day of the match. Can you please come in the comment section?”

The England pacer who is not a part of the playing squad because of the calf injury responded with, “@navishthakur422 on holiday, what’s happened?”

After the match, the England skipper Joe Root stated that they would take some positives from the match but it was frustrating as they had a good chance to win the test match. Root praised the England openers for putting up the 100 run partnership and stated that the Indian bowlers bowled beautifully as they also managed to reverse the ball. He was of the opinion that the turning point of the match was Bumrah’s spell.

The fifth test match will start from 10th September and it will be played at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Greater Manchester, England.
