MS Dhoni is certainly a great skipper not just because he is the only skipper to win three ICC tournaments – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy but also for the fact that he backed some good players and gave them confidence so that they can prove their worth and one such player is Virat Kohli.
Though Virat Kohli made his presence felt in cricket world with his talent as he led the U-19 team to 2007 World Cup win, his international career didn’t start in a sensational manner and MS Dhoni should be credited for showing patience and supporting him.
Recently, the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar who recently got involved in a war of words with Virat Kohli talked about the boost that MS Dhoni gave to Kohli’s career.
While speaking on a show, Sunil Gavaskar said that initially Virat Kohli’s international career was a stop-start career and it is a fact that Dhoni gave him the much needed extra momentum because of which Virat Kohli is what we see today.
A little while back, Sunil Gavaskar criticized Virat Kohli for his slow rate when he batted at the strike rate of 118 in a match and the former RCB skipper gave him back after playing a blistering knock in another match.
Sunil Gavaskar made it clear that he was just doing his job and he has no agenda whatsoever. He further asked Virat Kohli if he wants commentators to praise him even when he plays at the strike rate of 118.
Let’s see how Virat Kohli will react to this statement by Sunil Gavaskar!
