The education system in India is going through a lot of issues which need to be solved. This is the 21st century and the rules of the world are changing fast; however, the system of education still follow old ones.
Supreme Court of India has now intervened and has given the order to stay the admission process for IITs, IIITs, NITs and other colleges over the bonus mark issue.
It has become the legal hurdle for IITs and NITs as they gave grace marks to the students for the misprinted question in IIT JEE Exam 2017. As per SC, the admission will be provided only after proving the validity of bonus marks as the future of 33000 students is in danger. This is the crucial issue, which is needed to be solved at the earliest.
The court also added that in the year 2015, it was decided that the grace marks will be given to the students who have attempted the question and if the question is found misprinted or wrong. Those who have not attempted the question will not be given any marks. The court was hearing a plea challenging Indian Institute of Technology’s (IITs) decision to grant grace marks to students for misprinted questions in this year’s IIT-JEE exam. The plea sought the apex court to stay the counselling and admissions to IITs. It also appealed to the court to direct IITs to revise the merit list after removing the grace marks.
The IITs’ counsel said-
“It is not possible to reevaluate the answer sheets of around 2.5 lakh students and awarding bonus marks was the most practical solution.”
The Supreme Court has now scheduled the next hearing for this coming Monday.
