The Indian cricket team will be starting their T20 World Cup campaign from 5 June with their first match against Ireland and many former cricketers have already spoken about their preferred team combinations and the batting order of the batters.
There are many experts who are of the opinion that Virat Kohli should open with Rohit Sharma as the former was in terrific form in the recently concluded IPL 2024. Virat Kohli was awarded with the Orange Cap as he scored 741 runs in 15 matches and in all the matches, he opened for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore.
However, the selectors have also included Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad who has been opening the innings with Rohit Sharma for India in the international fixtures for quite some time now. Yashasvi’s journey in the IPL 2024 was full of ups and downs and he scored 435 runs in the tournament. The former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina feels that the youngster should open the innings with the Indian skipper.
During an event, Suresh Raina said that he will prefer Yashasvi Jaiswal to open and Virat Kohli to stick to his position of number 3. Raina said that Virat Kohli is a run machine and he feels that Jaiswal will be a better option to open than Virat Kohli.
Suresh Raina also talked about Shivam Dube and said that Dube is also young and plays fearlessly as Jaiswal because of which the management should make place for Shivam Dube in the team. Suresh Raina said that very few batters have the ability to hit sixes as Shivam Dube can hit and in the past, we have witnessed such power-hitting by MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.
Suresh Raina called Shivam Dube as the trump card of the Indian team and said that he may miss the chance of playing if Jaiswal is in the playing XI because of which Rohit Sharma will need to make tough decision as Dube’s inclusion will ensure 20-30 extra runs in the team’s score.
