The Indian cricketer Suresh Raina got into trouble after he tweeted in support of Kanhaiya Kumar, the student leader of JNU student union. Kanhaiya was arrested by the Delhi police on charges of sedition as anti-national slogans were shouted on the occasion of an event organized by the JNU students. On 9th of February, a group of JNU students organized an event which was related to the hanging of the terrorist Afzal Guru, which they called “judicial murder” and in this event, slogans were chanted in support of Afzal Guru and against India.
After the videos of the event got public, Kanhaiya and some other students were taken into custody; however, were released on bail later.
After his release, Kanhaiya gave a speech which was admired by the cricketer Suresh Raina and he tweeted: “#kanhaiya on @ndtv right now… Beauty!!! Can just feel the honesty in every word..Respect himtrue fighter and honest man salute you”.
After this tweet, Raina got the shock of his lifetime when he was trolled on the Internet, abused and called traitor, anti-national, Pakistani and communist. Not only this, many of his fans say that they don’t like him anymore and have no respect for him from now onwards.
However, some people admired him also as this fan who commented, “my respect for you has increased. It takes great courage for a celebrity to risk his reputation and say what he feels. Don’t bother about pseudo patriots abusing you. More strength to you. Keep making India proud on and off the field.”
