A devastating tragedy unfolded in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district when the roof of a classroom at Piplodi Primary School collapsed, k*lling at least seven students and injuring several others. What makes the incident even more tragic is the series of ignored warnings that could have potentially prevented the loss of young lives.
According to eyewitness accounts, students had noticed pebbles falling from the ceiling and repeatedly informed the teachers. Instead of acting on these warnings, the teachers reportedly dismissed their concerns and continued having breakfast. One student, speaking to a news channel, recalled how the teachers scolded the children when they tried to raise an alarm. Another student in Class 8 detailed how the children were inside the classroom for morning prayers when debris began falling. Rather than being evacuated, they were told to stay seated. Moments later, the wall gave way and the entire roof caved in.
As the structure collapsed, chaos ensued. Several children tried to flee, while others were buried under the rubble. It was only with the help of local villagers that the children trapped under the debris were rescued and rushed for medical attention.
The school, which was constructed in 1994 by the gram panchayat, had four classrooms, one of which gave way in this tragic accident. Following the incident, five teachers were suspended and the Rajasthan government has launched a high-level inquiry to investigate the cause and the gross negligence that preceded the collapse.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma released a video statement expressing deep sorrow over the d*aths. He conveyed his condolences to the grieving families and assured them of full state support. He also directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for those injured.
The collapse at Piplodi Primary School has not only shaken the local community but has also raised serious questions about infrastructure safety and accountability in government-run schools.
As investigations begin, the incident stands as a grim reminder of the consequences of negligence, especially when the lives of innocent children are at stake.
