Teenage Brother-Sister Locked Themselves Up In Rooms For 4 Yrs Coz They Didn’t Want To Study

Teenagers sometimes behave in an unpredictable manner and it’s normal too, taking into consideration various hormonal changes in that age. But what will you say about a girl who confined herself in a room for four years just because she didn’t want to study? Unbelievable, isn’t it?

On Tuesday, the bizarre case became public when police got a complaint from someone living in the Panchvati Colony. The complainant became doubtful when kids didn’t come out of the home for long.

The shocking incident happened in Haridwar where a girl, who is now 18 years old, locked herself up after getting furious and upset with her parents who scolded her, as she didn’t score good marks in the examinations of Class X in 2013. Her 15-yr brother also walked into her footsteps and it was in the year 2016 that he dropped out of school and secluded himself in a different room.

Here’s what Times Of India was told by Mamta Vohra, SP (city),

“We received information from a neighbour that two kids were forcefully confined in a room by their parents in their area. A team was sent to rescue them but the reality was quite different. It turned out that the brother and sister had locked themselves up. We have warned them that they would be sent to reform homes if they lock themselves up again.”

As per the father, manager in a two-wheeler showroom, the girl had no interest in studies and it was in the year 2013 that she stopped going to school. As per an official,

“During questioning, the girl, who appeared like she had not bathed for days, or even months, said that she was fed up of her parents constantly nagging her to carry on with her schooling so she locked herself up in her room.”

She didn’t even want to look at her parents and that’s why, she used to communicate with them on phone or through hand-written notes. The officer added,

“She would only open the door to demand food from her mother.”

The girl’s brother also stopped coming out of his room in the year 2016. As per cops, their rooms were provided with basic amenities including air-conditioner, TV, laptop etc.

This is what a child specialist Dr. Sandeep Nigam said regarding the case,

“This is a shocking case. Teenagers can sometimes be moody and act impulsive but this kind of reaction is extreme. It is unclear why the parents did not seek help from anyone. These children need immediate counselling.”

It’s definitely an unusual incident but we wonder as to why parents didn’t take appropriate actions to tackle the situation. What do you have to say regarding the case?
