Why is the visa fees waived off?

Since mid-October, the bookings have dropped to a great extent. Now, officials of Thailand tourism believe that if this visa fees is waived off, tourists from all across the globe would feel welcomed in the country.

Free visas would be valid only for 19 nations and those include Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, San Marino, Romania, Mauritius, Malta, Maldives, Lithuania, Latvia, Kazakhstan, India, Ethiopia, Cyprus, China, Bhutan, Bulgaria and Andorra. The 3 major markets that would be benefiting from this move are Saudi Arabia, China and India.

Normally, the price of a Single Entry tourist visa is around £25/$40 and allows a stay of up to 60 days in Thailand which can be extended for a further 30 days at an immigration office for 1,900 baht (Rs 3605). But now this tourist visa will be free until 28th Feb.

Apart from this, there is some relief in the visa-on-arrival too. In the month of September, the visa-on-arrival fees was increased to THB 2,000 but now, for the citizens of these 19 countries, the fees is reduced to THB 1,000 which is Rs 1897/-.
