Onions are known for bring tears, sometimes they bring tears when you cut them, sometimes their prices bring tears in eyes as it is happening presently. The prices of onion have gone up to Rs.60 – Rs.65 per kilo in wholesale while in retail, the prices have reached Rs.80 per kilo. Onion is known to be the biggest problem for the governments and it has also played a major part in some elections resulting in the defeat of the party whose government cannot control the price rise.

However Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Singh Badal has proposed an idea for countering this onion price rise in future. He has advised to process the onions in to the form of paste or powder whenever there price is low and use that paste/powder when the prices of onions are high. This is what Badal told PTI, “Onion prices usually rise in the rainy season. This problem can be addressed by processing onions at a time when prices are usually less… We can dehydrate onions and convert it into powder and paste forms.”
