Two constables from Mumbra Police Station have been arrested by the Police on the charges of raping a minor 16-year old girl for more than three months; the minor was saved by them from a prostitution group. The police is also investigating the possibility of case being covered up by the Seniors of Police Department.
In January, the 16 year-old minor was sent to work for a couple by her mother, the mother was told by the couple that they will provide her with regular and stable income if her daughter works for their catering company. However the couple ran a prostitution business and the minor girl was dragged into this business.
As per the sources in Thane Police, the couple was caught in connection to their prostitution business by the Mumbra Police but no complaint was filed and the couple was also left without taking any action against them. The minor girl was compelled to work in the prostitution business, and now the two constables who were involved in catching the couple were also raping her regularly.
On March 31, an NGO got a tip regarding the involvement of minors in prostitution, which they passed on to the local police station, but local police was not in the mood to take any action, until the NGO workers approached the Joint Commissioner. The Police officials at Mumbra Police station showed it as a plain case of saving a minor from prostitution.
The girl was sent to Vasai in a shelter, where during counseling she spilled the beans regarding her getting raped by the two constables, Kaushal Kakde and Irfan Khan for three months, she also said that both of them have warned of her dire consequences if she tells about it to everyone, they will send her to jail for many years.
The girl was presented in front of the Magistrate on Tuesday where she told the magistrate about her plight. The two constables, and the couple Shabhana Sheikh and Mohammed Shahid Shaeikh from Amrut Nagar, have been taken into custody.
Sources from the Police inform Mirror that the local officials of Mumbra Police station are also in the radar of investigation as there is a doubt that the case was being suppressed by them.
An officer said, “This happened around the time of the Saki Naka model rape case and the local police wanted to avoid a loss of face.” DCP Sachin Patil of Thane city police ststed, “Investigations revealed many facts and based on that the accused have been arrested. Investigations are on.”
