“They Were Calling Travis A ****,” Usman Khawaja On English Fans’ Misbehaviour During Ashes - RVCJ Media

The Ashes has always been one of the most competitive test series and there have been some heated moments and the players have got into ugly fights. In the Ashes series 2023, we have seen sledging between the players crossed the limits of friendly banter and even a section of English fans behaved in an aggressive manner in the stadium. The Alex Carey-Ben Stokes episode has further deteriorated things between the two teams.

The Australian batter Usman Khawaja who has been involved in a couple of feuds himself is not happy with the behaviour of English crowd as he said in a recent interview that he would never like his kids to come and watch cricket in such an atmosphere. He added that if he saw these things happening, he would surely complain or leave. He further said that there were times when things said by the crowd were really bad just like the abusive word they used for Travis Head. Usman further added that he just can’t believe that such a word can be used by someone in public.

On the other hand, the English media has defended their players and crowd by saying that the Aussie cricketers and crowd also behaved in the same manner and the Australians should first control their crowd before saying anything to English spectators.

Usman Khawaja stated that when this matter was being taken up with English guys, they said that the Australian crowd also behaved in the same manner. He added that he doesn’t like it either way because he feels it is not the correct thing to do.

Usman accepts that the Australian people can also take it far just like English people but he is not a big fan of this thing. He adds that such things happen in NBA especially when the crowd gets close to the players, just like in cricket and he didn’t like it.

The fourth test match is taking place after a good gap of 9 days so both the sides will be refreshed and rejuvenated. So cricket lovers will get to see a great contest and hopefully, the players and spectators will behave in a proper manner.
