It’s truly a rare occurrence for someone to be bequeathed property worth a staggering Rs 72 crore by a complete stranger. Yet, this is precisely what transpired for Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt. The actor recently shed light on this astonishing event in his life, revealing that he made the decision to return the entire inheritance to the fan’s family.
During his appearance on a talk show, Sanjay Dutt was directly asked if it was indeed true that a female fan had left him her property before her passing in 2018. Confirming the story, he stated simply, “I gave it back to her family.”
The story first made headlines in 2018 when Nisha Patil, a devoted 62 yeard old homemaker from Mumbai, bequeathed her substantial property valued at Rs 72 crore to Sanjay Dutt. This unexpected gesture left the actor quite stunned. Nisha, reportedly suffering from a terminal illness, had instructed her bank to transfer all her assets to Sanjay Dutt following her d*ath.
Sanjay Dutt who made his cinematic debut in 1981 with the film Rocky has carved out a successful, albeit often controversial, career in Hindi cinema. Over several decades, Sanjay Dutt has starred in a diverse range of popular films including Vidhaata, Naam, Saajan, Khal Nayak and Vaastav, solidifying his position as one of the most charismatic actors of Bollywood.
However, his journey was significantly disrupted by legal troubles. He was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) for possessing illegal weapons which were linked to the 1993 Bombay blasts. Although he was eventually acquitted under TADA, he was convicted under the Arms Act and subsequently sentenced to five years in prison. After several paroles and furloughs, he completed his sentence in 2016.
Sanjay Dutt made a remarkable comeback with the 2003 blockbuster Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., a film that quickly became a cultural phenomenon. His life story was later adapted into the highly successful 2018 film Sanju, directed by his longtime collaborator Rajkumar Hirani, with Ranbir Kapoor brilliantly portraying the actor. Sanju went on to become one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema.
Currently, Sanjay Dutt is immersed in multiple projects. For 2025 alone, he has five films slated for release. The Bhootnii and Housefull 5 have already premiered, while Akhanda 2, Dhurandhar and The RajaSaab are scheduled to hit theaters later this year. Furthermore, he is also part of the Kannada film KD – The Devil which is set for release in 2026.
Sanjay Dutt returning the property to the family members of his fan is truly remarkable and proves that he is a real gem. What do you say?
