Khap Panchayats are the Panchayats which administrate over the families which have same gotras (clan) and their governing area ranges from one village to many villages. Khap is a group of villages which are united by caste or geography. Khap Panchayats are mostly widespread in Haryana, Western parts of Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Rajasthan.
Khap Panchayats doesn’t allow love marriages in couples of same gotra, many couples have been killed on the orders of Khap Panchayats after they have disobeyed the orders of Khap Panchayats.
Supreme Court has declared these “Khap Panchayats” as illegal as they encourage honor killings and various atrocities on the couples of the same gotra who have fallen in love or got married.
There is twitter account also by the name of Khap Panchayat, which is managed by Tushar Sharma, an IT student from Haryana, and this twitter account is famous for its tweets with dark humor. The tweets talk about honor killings, the rights and education of women and various topics related to Khap Panchayat and their dictatorship.
