Opebiyi was subsequently cleared by a detective but the pilot didn’t allow him back on the flight to Amsterdam. He had to wait for 3 hours for the flight. He believes that the passenger seated next to him was a Muslim and he concluded as him being a terrorist.
He further adds that the guy hardly knew him for 2 minutes and jumped to such a conclusion. Opebiyi is basically a business analyst and he was awaiting the plane to depart at 6.45am. His fellow passenger asked him about what he meant by ‘prayer’ and after receiving an explanation, the passenger went to the cabin crew and had some conversation. He came back and told Opebiyi that since he wasn’t feeling well, he got off the plane.
Few minutes later, 2 armed officers entered the flight and asked Opebiyi to hand over his phone and remove his belongings. They took him off the plane to the terminal building.
There, they questioned him about his religion, to which he replied that he was a Christian and also showed them the Bible that he carried in his bag. He was asked whether he wants to change his religion, to which he replied ‘no’. On being asked about his asked about his prayer group, he named it as ‘ISI men’.
Eventually, the officer told him that he was clear but was asked to take another flight. He faced a lot of humiliation due to this.
