The final ball had barely been bowled when the Internet declared the match over, not just on the field but in spirit too. India’s dominant win over Pakistan on Sunday quickly turned social media into a festival of memes, sarcasm and celebration.
While the scoreboard showed a convincing 61-run victory, timelines were filled with jokes suggesting the contest hardly felt competitive. Ishan Kishan smashed a fiery 77 and Jasprit Bumrah delivered a clinical spell to guide India into the Super Eight stage. But online, many fans felt the result seemed predictable from the start.
Joining the fun, Google India posted a cheeky line that read, “This match could’ve been an email”.

The joke instantly struck a chord. It suggested that the outcome was so obvious, it didn’t need three hours of cricket to confirm it. The post went viral within minutes, becoming a popular way to describe how firmly India controlled the game from beginning to end.
Another widely shared meme brought global politics into the mix. A photo of the points table, with India comfortably ahead, was captioned as, “Trump mediating between India and Pakistan.” The humour reflected how one-sided the clash appeared to many viewers.

Not everyone escaped the online roasting. Several posts targeted Pakistan captain Babar Azam, with users poking fun after his dismissal during the chase at the R Premadasa Stadium.
