The first match is being played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium and after winning the toss, the visitors opted to bat first. Though a lot of noise was generated by the Aussies in regard to the pitches as they expected turning pitches which would support the spinners, the initial shocks were given to the Aussies by the Indian pacers.

While Mohammed Shami bowled out David Warner (1), Mohammed Siraj dismissed the in-form Usman Khawaja (1) and the visitors were reeling at 2/2 by the third over of their innings. Marnus Labuschagne (49 runs) and Steve Smith (37 runs) batted patiently and produced a partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket and took their team’s score to 84 before Ravindra Jadeja produced a brilliant spell to get rid of both of them along with Matt Renshaw (0) and Peter Handscomb (31 runs).

Alex Carey (36) was sent back to pavilion by Ravichandran Ashwin and the Indian spinner also dismissed the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins at the score of 6. While Ravindra Jadeja stuck once again by dismissing Todd Murphy (0), R Ashwin took one wicket in the form of Scott Boland (1) and ended the Australian innings.

R Ashwin (3 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (5 wickets) completely dominated the Australian innings as they both shared 8 wickets together. Moreover in this test match, R Ashwin achieved one more milestone as he became the second Indian bowler to take 450 or more test wickets after Anil Kumble. Ravindra Jadeja also made a superb comeback as he was out of cricketing action for almost six months because of knee injury.

In response, India made a good start as by the end of day 1, India’s score was 77/1 with skipper Rohit Sharma (56 runs) on the crease with R Ashwin (0).

The Indian Twitterati was pretty happy with the manner in which India performed and this is how fans and cricket fraternity reacted:
