In Time Magazine’s second annual list of the 2019 ‘world’s greatest places,’ Gujarat’s Statue of Unity and Mumbai’s Soho house has made their places, says a report. The international magazine has labeled these places as ‘noteworthy destinations to experience right now’.
The Statue of Unity in Gujarat is the world’s tallest statue and it is 182 meters tall. It is the statue of India’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and who was also known as the Iron Man of India. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, commemorating one of the strongest pillars of free India.
While the Soho House in Mumbai is the 11-storey building which has a library a movie theatre with 34 seats and a rooftop swimming pool, facing the Arabian Sea.
Time said that the unique feel comes in the shape of block-printed fabrics from Rajasthan; handwoven cane furniture; environmentally sustainable, sari-coated lampshades; and some 200 art pieces by mostly South Asian artists.
The Soho House is the first set up of the hotel chain in Asia, which already exists across the United States and Europe.
Egypt’s Red Sea Mountain Trail, Newseum in Washington, Chad’s Zakouma National Park, and The Shed in New York City also feature in the list.
