Top 8 Inventors Killed By Their Own Inventions

People love new inventions but they don’t know about the hardwork done by the inventor. Inventions are made for benefiting the society as a whole. However, do you know that some inventions were so dangerous that they literally claimed the lives of the inventors? Yes, poor souls must have not even imagined that they will invent things and would themselves be ruined after that. Given below are some of the inventions which killed their own inventor.

1. Valerian Abakovsky – Propeller-driven rail car.

Valerian Abakovsky designed the Propeller-driven rail car to transport the official quickly across Soviet Union. During 1921, the rail car derailed, killing everyone in it including the inventor himself.

2. Karel Soucek – Shock-absorbing barrel

Soucek was a Canadian professional stuntman. He invented a shock-absorbing capsule and went over Niagara Falls in a barrel in 1984 and luckily he survived. But in 1985, Soucek again performed a stunt in his barrel, 180 feet above the floor of the Astrodome, this time the barrel hit the rim of water tank instead of landing in its center and he died that day.

3. William Bullock – Rotary Printing Press

The american inventor invented the first modern printing press. On April 12, 1867, Bullock died in a bizarre accident because of his own invention.

4. Marie Curie – Radioactivity

Marie Curie is known for establishing the theory of radioactivity. She won two nobel prizes, one in Physics (1903) and second in Chemistry (1911). She died at the Sancellemoz Sanatorium in Passy, from aplastic anemia believed to have been contracted from her long-term exposure to radiation.

5. Henry Smolinski – Flying Car

Henry Smolinski invented the AVE Mizar, a flying car with a detachable wing section. During a test flight in 1973 of the prototype he created, the wings detached in mid-air causing the death of both inventor.

6. Franz Reichelt – Parachute Suit

He was an French tailor and inventor known as the flying tailor. He jumped from the Eiffel Tower, unfortunately his parachute failed to deploy and he died.

7.  Wan Hu – Rocket Chair

Chinese legend has it, the Wan Hu attempted to go to the moon using the rocket chair he designed with 47 rockets. Instead of flying him to the moon the rockets exploded and the inventor died.

 

8. Perillos of Athens – Brazen Bull

You remember Brazen Bull aka Sicilian Bull from our article “11 Most Brutal Methods Of Execution In Human History” right? It was used to painfully execute the criminals. When Perillos presented this to the Phalaris, he ordered system to be tested on Perillos himself.
