More Troubles For Padmavati? Censor Board Sent Back Padmavati, Release Might Be Delayed

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmavati” has been making news ever since its poster released and taking into consideration the way it’s attracting controversies, it seems that difficulties for the flick and the makers will only increase in the near future.

Vandalism, physical violence with the director and Karni Sena’s warning of chopping off Deepika’s nose were already shocking for the makers and cast of the film and now CBFC’s act has further increased the problems for “Padmavati”.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has sent back “Padmavati” and the reason which has been given is that the application sent for the certification is “incomplete”. As per the board, after the movie is sent to it again, it will be reviewed as per the norms.

A source from CBFC told PTI,

“The film was submitted for certification last week. We examined the documents, as we normally do. It was conveyed to the makers that their application was incomplete. They had to rectify and send it back; we will view it when it comes back to us. When they (makers) rectify the deficiency, we will again scrutinise it once more and when the turn comes, we will examine it (film for certification).”

However, it has not been revealed as to what the “deficiency in the application” was. When asked about the next date of screening, the source replied,

“When it comes back to us, we will put it in queue and see when the turn comes, there will be no exception (in case of Padmavati).”

This is what the COO of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Ajit Andhare, has to say on this matter,

“That’s true. But film is with the CBFC, it is merely a minor technical issue. Nothing stops them from seeing the film if they want.”

On the other hand, the protests by the Karni Sena are also increasing. They have called for a nation-wide strike on December 1, the same day when the film is scheduled to release. Mumbai police has increased the security of Deepika following the threats issued by President of Karni Sena (Rajasthan unit) of chopping off her nose.

The Union Minister Uma Bharti has assured that Deepika won’t be harmed. She was also confident that the flick would be cleared by the CBFC after “taking the sentiments of people into consideration”. However, she also tweeted about the responsibility of the director and the scriptwriter,

“The director and his associate as the scriptwriter of #Padmavati are responsible for its story. They should have taken care of the sentiments and the historical facts.”

The flick is slated to release on December 1 but as per the latest developments, the release may be delayed.

Let’s see whether it’s the last hurdle for “Padmavati” or more troubles are yet to come. What do you say?
