Vijay Mallaya, who was once called the “King Of Good Times” and also referred to as “India’s Richard Branson” has left the country while the 17 banks of India are waiting for him to pay their loans which amount to more than Rs. 7000 crore.
On Wednesday, as the Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by banks asking the court to stop the businessman from leaving the country, Mukul Rohatgi, the attorney general who was representing the consortium of banks stated, “Agencies and the CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] have told me he left the country on the second of March. Please ask Mr. Mallya to come back and appear in the Supreme Court and disclose all his assets.”
Vijay Mallaya, however, has sent an email to the media in which he states that he has been hurt after seeing that media is trying to portray him “as an absconder”, while in reality, he has no plans to run away from his problems.
