Today, Vikrant Massey is known for powerful performances and quiet confidence on screen but his journey into acting began in a place far removed from awards and admiration. As a teenager in Mumbai, his life revolved around managing responsibilities far bigger than his age. At just 16, he was working exhausting hours to support his education, with little room to dream about the future.
Acting entered Vikrant Massey’s life unexpectedly while he was working at a restaurant in the city. A television producer noticed him during one of his shifts and offered him a lead role in a TV show. The opportunity came without warning and without preparation. Vikrant had never imagined starting his acting career so early. His plan was to finish his studies, train formally and only then step into the profession years later. But with financial pressure mounting, the offer felt impossible to refuse.
At the time, Vikrant Massey was juggling two jobs alongside his studies, often working 16 hours a day. Accepting the role meant stepping into an unfamiliar world far sooner than he had planned. Although the show eventually never made it to television, it became his first experience in front of the camera and a deeply challenging one.
His first day on set was anything but exciting. The shoot took place at a studio in Madh Island, an area that now feels like home to him but was intimidating back then. Standing in front of the camera for the first time, Vikrant Massey struggled with his lines and performance. The pressure of the environment, combined with inexperience, made the day overwhelming.
The director, a seasoned professional, lost patience with the young actor. Vikrant recalled being shouted at repeatedly, with criticism delivered publicly and harshly. For a teenager still learning, the humiliation cut deep. Unable to process the situation, he broke down in tears on set, feeling exposed and embarrassed in front of a large crew.
Later, the producer tried to console him but the damage was already done. Vikrant Massey quietly questioned why the criticism had to be so public. Instead of reacting or quitting, he chose to absorb the experience and move forward.
That moment, as painful as it was, became a turning point. Vikrant believes it shaped his willingness to learn and develop, helping him grow thicker skin early in his career. The director later apologised for his behaviour, acknowledging that he had crossed a line.
While Vikrant Massey forgave the director, he admits he never forgot the incident. Being publicly scolded on his very first day left a lasting mark. Yet, that difficult beginning laid the foundation for the actor he is today – resilient, grounded and deeply committed to his craft.
