Royal Challengers Bengaluru capped off another memorable IPL season by lifting the 2026 title and Virat Kohli made sure that the celebrations ended with a memorable moment off the field as well.
The veteran batter played a match-winning role in the final against Gujarat Titans, helping RCB secure their second consecutive IPL championship. The victory placed the franchise among an exclusive group of teams to have won back-to-back IPL titles, joining Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
Under captain Rajat Patidar, RCB also climbed to fourth place on the list of the league’s most successful teams. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings remain at the top with five titles each, while Kolkata Knight Riders have won three championships.
However, it was Virat Kohli’s post-match comment that quickly grabbed attention. During a light-hearted interaction with comedian Danish Sait, popularly known as Mr Nags, Kohli jokingly said he wanted the trophy to arrive so that he could head home.
Virat Kohli said, “Trophy aava de and home jaava de, thank you very much”.

The remark caught fans’ attention because it included a phrase (Aava De) closely associated with Gujarat Titans’ popular team slogan, leading many to interpret it as a playful parting shot at the defeated finalists.
Whether intentional or not, the comment quickly became a talking point among supporters on social media following RCB’s title triumph.
Attention will now shift to Virat Kohli’s immediate future. It remains unclear whether he will travel back to London, where he currently lives with his family, or remain in India ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which begins in less than two weeks.
As for RCB, the title victory was further proof that their auction strategy has paid off. The franchise defeated Gujarat Titans convincingly in Ahmedabad on May 31, looking more composed and confident side throughout the final despite playing in front of a home crowd supporting the Titans.
The championship was RCB’s second in a row, coming just a year after they ended an 18-year wait for their maiden IPL title. Rather than focusing on defending their crown, the team entered the season with the goal of winning another trophy and they delivered.
With several players continuing to improve and develop into consistent match-winners, RCB will hope the current squad remains intact for years to come as they look to build on an increasingly successful era.
