If you follow the news then the 500 crore call centre fraud in Thane wouldn’t be a surprise to you. The incident revolved around Sagar Thakkar aka Shaggy the mastermind behind the scam who had made crores through this scheme. According to Thane police, Sagar Thakkar with his partners Ali, Tapesh, Jimmy and Akhil Singh were the key players who pulled-off the scam.
However, the twists to this scam got more controversial when it was found out that the police confiscated Audi R8, that Shaggy had apparently gifted to his girlfriend, was purchased from Virat Kohli.
This news was confirmed by DCP Parag Manere who earlier refused to entertain any rumors that may link Kohli to the scam. Shaggy is believed to have fled from India and is yet untraceable.
The 2012 model of Audi R8 (HR 26 BW 0018) that Shaggy gifted his girlfriend was bought from a broker in May this year for Rs 60 lakhs. The car, for which Kohli reportedly paid a jaw-dropping price of Rs 2.3 crores, is now with the Thane Crime Branch, which traced the vehicle to Rohtak in Haryana.
A Crime Branch source said;
“The deal was finalised on May 7, and the car is still in Virat Kohli’s name as Thakkar never forwarded the details of his PAN Card and other documents to get it transferred in his name,”

The cops reported that it’s hardly possible Kohli would have an idea about the buyer’s background, nor would he have even met Thakkar, as the deal was carried out by a broker. The Thane Crime Branch said that Thakkar paid for the car in cash, in two installments of Rs 40 lakhs and Rs 20 lakhs. The Thane Crime Branch had to shell out Rs 50,000 towards transportation cost to bring the vehicle to the city.
