It doesn’t take much for Virat Kohli to set the Internet buzzing. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple post. Ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara, the Indian batting star surprised fans by sharing three pictures from a net session and the reaction online was instant and massive.
For Virat Kohli’s supporters, this felt like a welcome change. Over the past few years, fans have often expressed how much they miss seeing glimpses of his preparation and daily cricketing routine. His social media presence had gradually shifted away from training updates, making this sudden peek behind the scenes all the more exciting.

In recent times, Virat Kohli has mostly used Instagram for brand endorsements, holiday moments with his wife Anushka Sharma and posts marking big career achievements. These included celebrations after India’s T20 World Cup win, the Champions Trophy triumph and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 title victory. While those moments were special, many fans felt something was missing.
Once known for being active online, Virat Kohli had noticeably reduced his personal posts, leading to frequent disappointment among followers. That’s why these net-session photos quickly stood out, reminding fans of the old days when his journey was shared more openly.
Virat Kohli arrived in Vadodara earlier this week as the city prepares to host a men’s ODI for the first time on Sunday, January 11. His arrival drew huge crowds at the airport, with fans eager to catch a glimpse of the star batter. Soon after, he got down to business, starting his preparations for the series opener against New Zealand.
Before returning to India, Virat Kohli welcomed the New Year in Dubai with family and friends. In December, he also made a much-talked-about return to domestic cricket, playing two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches after a gap of 16 years.
His performances on the field have been just as striking as his online comeback. Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 131 followed by a fluent 77 in those matches, showing he is in top form. During this run, he crossed 16,000 List A runs, becoming the fastest player to reach the milestone and breaking a long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar.
With confidence high and rhythm on his side, Virat Kohli will now look to carry this form into the ODI series when India take on New Zealand on Sunday, January 11.
