Former India batter Robin Uthappa believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s batting technique resembles that of Don Bradman but says it is still too early to predict the teenager’s long-term future.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket. At just 15 years old, the left-handed batter has impressed with his fearless approach and calmness against top-quality bowling.
The youngster first caught the spotlight during an impressive IPL campaign, where he confidently took on experienced bowlers. His performances earned him a place in the Indian team, giving him the chance to play alongside senior stars. Although he had a quiet start on the England tour, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi bounced back strongly in Zimbabwe, scoring 151 runs in three matches and finishing as the Player of the Series.
His ability to adjust to different conditions at such a young age has led many to believe that India has discovered a special talent. However, former India batter Robin Uthappa has urged people not to make long-term predictions too soon.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Robin Uthappa said it is still too early to judge Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s future because opponents have not yet fully adapted to his style of batting. He added that the teenager’s batting technique reminds him of Australian great Sir Don Bradman, particularly his ability to avoid getting dismissed leg before wicket (LBW). Uthappa noted that Don Bradman also had a unique technique, which eventually prompted teams to develop the famous Bodyline tactic to counter him.
Don Bradman’s achievements remain unmatched in cricket history. In 52 Test matches, he scored 6,996 runs at an extraordinary average of 99.94, including 29 centuries, with the highest score of 334.
Robin Uthappa also said that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could become a truly exceptional player if he is able to maintain both a high scoring rate and an average in the high 40s over a long period. He also reflected on Don Bradman’s career, wondering whether the Australian legend could have maintained an average close to or above 100 had World War II not interrupted his career and allowed him to play around 30 more Test matches.
For now, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s career is only beginning but his early performances have marked him as one of India’s brightest young cricketers to watch.
