The IPL 2023 ended yesterday with CSK winning the trophy for the fifth time and with this, the speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement also came to an end. Even before the IPL 2023 started, there were speculations that it may be the last IPL of MS Dhoni as a player and whenever MSD was asked about it, he never gave a clear answer.
Recently just before the IPL 2023 final, the former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev opened up on this matter and he praised Dhoni’s captaincy skills as it was under his leadership that the Indian team won three ICC trophies – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy and he had also led CSK in four title wins.
Kapil Dev says that MS Dhoni has played the IPL for 15 years and asks why everyone is talking about him and what more we want from him. He further asks whether we want to see him play for remaining of his life which is certainly not possible so let us be thankful towards him for playing and entertaining us for 15 years.
Kapil Dev adds that whether MSD plays the next IPL or not, his impact is still huge and even in this year’s IPL, he has managed to take his team to the finals without scoring many runs which displays the importance of a captain’s role in the game of cricket.
However in the post match presentation of the final match, while having a conversation with Harsha Bhogle, MS Dhoni states that it is the ideal situation for him to say Thank You and walk away but the amount of love and affection that he has got everywhere, he should work hard, come back and play for at least one more year.
