Bollywood actor Govinda is one of the most famous and most loved actors of the 90s era and there is no denying the fact his fans still want him to work in movies because there is no other actor who has a better comic timing than him.
He made his debut with the film “Love 86” and went on to appear in over 130 movies. Initially recognized as an action hero who made people crazy with his dancing skills, he later found immense success as a comic actor.
Govinda played leading roles in several hits, including “Aankhen”, “Raja Babu”, “Coolie No 1”, “Hero No 1”, “Deewana Mastana”, “Dulhe Raja”, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan”, “Anari No 1”, “Jodi No 1”, “Haseena Maan Jayegi” and so on.
Govinda is one of those few actors who have given back-to-back hits and he was so busy that often he didn’t have time to read scripts. However, there is one role which he missed and many may feel that he should have done it.
During the early days of his career, Govinda visited Rajshri studios in search of work. He was initially offered the role of Abhimanyu in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat. However, around the same time, his uncle began producing the film Tan-Badan and offered him the lead role. Govinda opted to launch his career in the film industry and declined the role in BR Chopra’s serial.
As per Govinda, he was also the first choice for the lead role in Sunny Deol starrer “Gadar”. In an interview, he revealed that he turned down the role because of abusive language in the script. However when the film was released, no such language was there. Director Anil Sharma later clarified that Govinda was never offered the role and it was a misunderstanding.
After experiencing several box office flops in the 2000s, Govinda made a comeback with commercial successes like “Bhagam Bhag”, “Partner”, “Life Partner” and “Holiday”. He also served as judge on dance reality shows; his last movie appearance was in “Rangeela Raja” in 2019 and since then, he has been missing from the big screen.
