Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed “Bajirao Mastani” (2015) which starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in important roles was one of the biggest hits of its times. But do you know that the trio was not the first choice for the movie and originally Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were supposed to play the lead roles in the flick?
There was a time when Salman and Aishwarya were the lovebirds of Bollywood and after giving a hit movie “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)” with both of them in the lead roles, SLB wanted to cast them in “Bajirao Mastani” but things didn’t turn out as expected. Salman and Aishwarya broke up and their relation got so bitter that the latter decided to break not just personal but professional ties as well with the former.
As Aishwarya refused to work with Salman, the “Wanted” actor suggested SLB to replace Aishwarya with Katrina. It is being said that Salman took Katrina to Bhansali’s office and told the director, “She is your Mastani”. However, SLB was not convinced that Katrina could be his Mastani so he decided to shelve the project, it all happened in 2003 and later on, he revived the project in 2015.
During an interview, SLB stated that not he but the movie itself chose Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra because originally when he had announced “Bajirao Mastani” with Salman, the trio would have been in school.
After breaking up with Aishwarya, Salman was in a relationship with Katrina Kaif but they also parted ways and now after being in a relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif is married to Vicky Kaushal.
