There has been a demand for tougher punishment for the rapists in India for a long time now but nothing has happened yet. However, a 23-yr girl from Kerala punished a swami brutally on her own, who had allegedly been raping her since she was studying in high school.
On Friday night, a girl called the Thiruvananthapuram police control room and told them that she had chopped off the private part of a swami who was trying to rape her. As per the police, the incident took place around 11.30pm and by 12.30 am, the accused Sreehari alias Ganeshananda Theerthapada Swami (54) was admitted in the Medical College hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, and his condition was said to be critical at that time.
The police told TNM that the Godman was a regular visitor to the girl’s house at Kannamula in Thiruvananthapuram as he used to pray for her father who was suffering from paralysis. The girl was aware that the Swami would visit on Friday so she hid a knife before he arrived.
When the police was asked as to why the girl decided to do something so brutal, the Pettai station’s Circle inspector stated, “She knew that no one would believe her if she said she had been sexually assaulted by a man of god. So, this was perhaps the only thing she could think of.” As of now, the girl is in the government owned women shelter.
A press statement was released by the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College on the condition of Swami and it read,
“A 54-year-old man from Kollam was admitted at 12.39 am to the hospital on Saturday. His p*nis had been cut (90%) and was hanging precariously. There was no way it could be stitched back. Plastic surgeons who are urology experts in the hospital did emergency surgery to stop the blood loss and to enable him to pass urine.”
At present, the condition of the accused has been termed as stable by the hospital.
Even more shockingly, the girl also told police that her mother was aware of what Swami was doing to her after which police took her mother into custody. On the other hand, the Swami claimed that he himself cut off his genitals and was not attacked by anyone but the cops didn’t agree with him.
As per the police, Swami had been booked under IPC section 376 (rape) and POSCO, as an officer said “Case had been filed under POCSO as the assault and rape seem to have started when she was a minor.” Just to inform, POSCO stands for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The incident is somewhat similar to a sequence of the movie entitled “22 Female Kottayam”, in which the lead actress removes the private part of the hero by a medical surgery as he has betrayed her.
The accused Godman is said to be from Padmana Ashram but the Math head Pranavananda Theerthapathar has totally denied it. He said,
“The person in the news reports had lived in the Ashram eight years ago. At that time he had changed his name from Hari to Ganeshananda Theerthapada Swami and secured an identity card with the Ashram’s address. But he left the Ashram, and it was said that he was running a hotel in Kozhencheryand Thiruvananthapuram. This person has no connection with the Ashram.”
We sincerely hope that the girl will get justice and we also appeal to people to remain alert and safe from such fake holy men.
