The Indian squad for the Sri Lanka 2-match home test series which will start from March 4 has been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently and the names of some senior players were found missing from the list.
The selectors have dropped Ajinkya Rahane, Chesteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha and while talking to the journalists in a virtual press conference, the chief selector Chetan Sharma states that these players have already been informed that they won’t be considered for the Sri Lanka series. He further says that it’s not the selectors who end the career of a player, adding that if a player scores runs and takes wickets, he will certainly play for the country. Chetan Sharma also states that he has asked all the four cricketers to play in the Ranji Trophy.
Though Chetan Sharma talked about Rahane and Pujara’s exclusion, he refused to disclose the reasons behind Saha’s exclusion. Talking about Wriddhiman Saha’s decision of not playing in the Ranji Trophy, Chetan Sharma states that he can’t say anything about it as it doesn’t come in his jurisdiction and this has to be taken care of by the state unit.
On the other hand, the wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha who was a part of the South Africa series but didn’t play a single match made some interesting revelations and a controversy has erupted after he shared a screenshot of his chat with a journalist who was rude to Saha and warned the cricketer of dire consequences as Saha chose not to give an interview to him.
Take a look at the screenshot:
Saha took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and shared the screenshot with the caption, “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket.. this is what I face from a so called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone.”

Soon cricket fans started expressing their anger over the manner in which a journalist warned the Indian cricketer. The former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also took a note of the incident and came out in full support of Saha.
Viru paaji responded with, “Extremely sad. Such sense of entitlement, neither is he respected nor a journalist, just chamchagiri. With you Wriddhi.”

Earlier, Saha also talked about the conversation which he had with the Board officials. Saha was a part of the New Zealand series and got featured in both the test matches as Rishabh Pant was not a part of the team at that time. In that series, Wriddhiman Saha played a gutsy knock of 61 runs in the first innings despite being injured in order to save the team. After this, he received a message from the current President Sourav Ganguly who stated that he doesn’t need to worry about his place in the team as long as he is at the top position. Saha stated that he is not able to understand how the things have changed so fast.
Talking about the conversation that he had with the team management including the head coach Rahul Dravid, 37 years old Saha says that he has been advised to take retirement as he has been told clearly that he won’t be considered for selection in the team in the future.
