It is a tradition to fulfill the last wish of the person who is going to be hanged till death; the jail authorities followed the tradition in Yakub’s case also. Yakub Memon, the convict of 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast case, expressed his desire to meet his daughter Zubeida as his last wish, however the wish can be fulfilled in the form of a phone call only and not a meeting.
Jail authorities made it possible for Yakub to have a conversation with his daughter and HT was told by a jail official, “He was very happy and cheerful after talking to his daughter.”
Earlier, Yakub had a meeting with his elder brother Suleiman, in which it is said that he cried heavily, and also talked about all his family members including his wife and daughter. His wife Raheen and daughter Zubeida came to meet him last week in the Central Jail, Nagpur.
On Wednesday evening, when Suleiman went to meet Yakub, he had a meeting with the jail officials as well, who asked him to make Yakub eat as he was not having food from the last two days.
Suleiman asked Yakub to have faith and told him about the appeal made at the last moment in the Supreme Court, he said, “Trust and imposed faith on the almighty. We are fighting for you and all the avenues are yet not exhausted.”
Yakub was given chicken curry and rotis, he ate one roti and two chicken legs. A cake was sent for him as he had his birthday on 30th July; however, it is unknown whether he had the cake or not.
Yakub Memon was hanged on the morning of 30th July 2015 around 6:43 am.
Although we do agree that if he had committed a crime and was involved in 1993 bombay blasts, it was a wise decision to evict him and in any manner, we don’t support him.
