Few young cricketers have generated as much excitement as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and the 15-year-old once again showed why he is considered one of India’s brightest talents.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi arrived in Sri Lanka for the Tri-Nation A Series in Dambulla carrying immense expectations. Before the tournament began, he had produced two remarkable innings in the IPL 2026 playoffs, scoring 97 in the Eliminator and 96 in Qualifier 2. Those performances helped him become the youngest ever winner of the Orange Cap in the IPL history.

His impressive run in the T20 competition also earned him a historic call-up from the Indian selection committee for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland and England. Although the tri-nation event was a one-day tournament, many expected the teenage opener to continue his explosive form.
However, the start of the competition was not as smooth as many had predicted. In his first four innings, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored a total of 117 runs. While he managed to get starts in each outing, he was unable to convert them into big scores. Questions began to emerge about whether he could make a major impact in the tournament.

The youngster answered those doubts in spectacular fashion during the final against Sri Lanka A. On the biggest stage of the competition, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shattered the record for the fastest fifty in List A cricket history by reaching the milestone in just 11 deliveries. He eventually scored a breathtaking 94 off only 29 balls, providing the perfect platform for India A to post a massive total of 377/9 and secure victory.
Reflecting on his turnaround, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi credited India A coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar for helping him regain clarity and confidence. The teenager admitted that he had been overthinking during the early stages of the tournament, particularly because of the different playing conditions. Hrishikesh Kanitkar encouraged him to trust his natural game, play freely and avoid unnecessary pressure.

The advice proved to be a turning point. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said he backed his instincts and was pleased to see the results on the field. He also rejected suggestions that he felt pressure to score a big innings. Instead, his focus was simply on executing his plans during the first ten overs and building from there.
That approach delivered one of the most memorable knocks of the tournament and served as another reminder of the immense potential of the young batting sensation.
