“M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story”, which hit the theaters on 30th of September has witnessed a superb response. Captain Cool’s huge fan following has helped this biopic become a huge success.

Moreover, the curiosity levels of audience about his love life and cricketing journey, drew them to the theaters. One style of Dhoni which no one can ever forget is his ‘Helicopter shot’, Well let us tell you an interesting thing; this was known as the ‘Thappad shot’ originally! Who knew that one day this will make his fans go crazy and will become famous internationally?

Have you ever wondered whether this shot was Dhoni’s invention or whether someone taught him this? Well, we have the answer for you; the ‘Helicopter shot’ was taught to him by his ‘Chuddy Buddy’ Santosh Lal. We all relate this shot to Captain Cool, but in reality he has learnt it from his friend!

Unfortunately, Santosh Lal had a very short life, as he died due to pancreatitis at the age of 32.

However, Dhoni tried his best to save him; even though he was on a vacation to New York, he ensured that his friend gets treated properly and in an attempt to this, he arranged an air ambulance for him from Ranchi to Delhi. It was Dhoni’s bad luck that nothing could be done.

In an interview, Nishant Dayal, their common friend stated;

“He and Dhoni were the best of friends since childhood. They would play tennis ball games endlessly. They both worked for Railways. Santosh was fearless as a batsmen,”

In spite of Dhoni’s sky-rocketing success, Lal didn’t lose touch with him. In fact, he was the one who was even better than Dhoni at this ‘Helicopter shot’.
