As per reports, the deal was closed between PCB and Inzamam only after the former captain agreed to the salary of Rs. 8 lakh per month while he was getting Rs 12 lakh per month as Afghan team’s coach which means that there is a decrease of Rs. 4 lakhs in his salary.

A statement was issued by the PCB chairman Shahryar Khan regarding Inzamam’s appointment, “He is our choice given his vast experience and the board has reached an agreement with Inzamam after the Afghanistan board agreed to release him.”

Inzamam has played 120 Tests and 398 ODIs and his career as Afghan team coach can be termed as successful as Afghan defeated the West Indian team in league matches of World T20; however, West Indies went on to become the World champion. Some other former Pakistani players such as Moin Khan, Iqbal Qasim and Mohsin Khan were also in line for the post but Inzi was chosen as Khan added, “We opted for Inzamam as we wanted to bring in someone who had played modern day cricket and who commanded total respect in the cricket circles.”
