An Indian cricket player who is currently in Zimbabwe for T-20 series has been arrested as he allegedly raped a local woman on Friday, reports NewZimbabwe.com, a media house in Zimbabwe. Yes, Charity Charamba, the Assistant police Commissioner of Harare said that the matter is being investigated since the woman has put rape allegations on an Indian national.

This incident took place at Meikles hotel which is located in Central Harare. This is the hotel where the team is staying for the T-20 fixtures.

As per Reports in Newzimbabwe.com, the rape victim was found loitering in the lobby of the hotel before she was drugged and abused.

Reports further add “The girl claims to have been drugged, then waking up to bloodied undergarments in one of the member’s rooms. She also said that she had no clue on how she reached the room.”

Charamba stated that:-

“The victim has pointed an Indian national from the batch that came in last week, at this point I’m not in the position to reveal whether it’s a player or official as I’m bound by law. But, what I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday.”

She also added that the investigation is concluded but both courts and police need to handle this issue very carefully so as to avoid diplomatic feud. Sources say

“People need to tread carefully because the Indian ambassador to Zimbabwe was seen at the hotel trying to stop the player’s arrest or maybe broker an out-of-court settlement with the woman,” said a source close to the developments”

As of now, there is no evidence of the alleged perpetrator being from India’s playing squad, since all 16 members were present in the match where India lost to Zimbabwe by 2 runs. It could be someone else associated with Indian Cricket team.

There were many senior officials from India who were trying to calm down the situation. They even had a word with the woman and law makers in Zimbabwe. As of now, nothing is confirmed! We just hope there is no truth in this news! Let’s wait for Zimbabwe Media to publish further updates regarding this case!
