The first tweet of Elon Musk after taking over Twitter read, “The bird is freed”

Recently, it has been announced that Twitter will be charging fees from the verified Twitter users for keeping their blue tick and this hasn’t gone well with many Twitter users who are having the blue tick.

The famous American author Stephen King was also not happy with this announcement and soon he expressed himself with a tweet which read, “$20 a month to keep my blue check? F@#k that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.”

Soon Elon Musk responded to his tweet and tried to negotiate with him by bringing down the fees to $8 per month instead of $20. He wrote, “We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?”

In his next tweet, Elon Musk also talked about the reason behind this decision as he tweeted, “I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.”

The conversation between Stephen King and Elon Musk served as fodder to the creative meme makers and soon Twitter was flooded with memes and jokes. Here are some selected ones:

While many other Twitter users have also complained in this regard, Elon Musk has made it clear that $8 will be charged as monthly fee, here is what he tweeted, “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8”.

In another tweet, he wrote,

“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit.

Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.”
