The natural conditions play an important role in a cricket match as there is a high possibility of having a good contest between the two teams if it is a clear sunny day but all the excitement and fun get spoiled if rain comes into the picture.
Rain has spoiled some important matches in the past and the same happened yesterday when the final match of the IPL 2023 got postponed as rain didn’t let the game start yesterday and now it will be played on the reserve day which is today (29 May 2023) between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
Here is the list of some important matches which got postponed or cancelled due to rain:
1. The most important match of the WTC 2019-2021 (final):
The Indian test team is all set to play the finals of the World Test Championship 2021-23 against Australia at the Oval, London, starting from 7 June 2023 but this is not the first time that India is playing the WTC final. India played the last WTC final as well which it lost to New Zealand and usually test matches are played for maximum 5 days but the last WTC final was played for 6 days as one day of play was spoiled because of rain and it was played on the reserve day.
2. Semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019:
In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, India got knocked out from the tournament after getting defeated by New Zealand in the semi-final match. The match was stopped midway on the original day due to rain and then it was resumed on the reserve day, though New Zealand entered the finals yet it got defeated by England in the last match of the tournament.
3. The most important match of the IPL 2023:
The most important match of the IPL 2023 which is the final of the tournament was scheduled to be played yesterday but it wasn’t played as there was heavy rain in Ahmedabad. The organizers have kept a reserve day for the match and now it will be played today.
Many cricket lovers are feeling that today’s match will be the last IPL match of CSK skipper MS Dhoni as the situation is quite similar to that of the ICC World Cup 2019 Semi-final. If you remember, India lost the semi-final match to New Zealand and that was the last international match of MS Dhoni and now the IPL 2023 final has got postponed due to rain and now many fans of Dhoni are thinking that it may be the last IPL match of Thala.
