Inspite Of Being A Comedy Film, Punjab Bans ‘The Legend of Michael Mishra’! Here’s Why

‘The Legend Of Michael Mishra’ the Aditi Rao Hydari and Arshad Warsi starrer is all to hit the screens and entertain the audiences. However, there is some piece of sad news for residents of Punjab. Well, the Punjab Government has banned the screening of this movie in the state, isn’t it bad?

Arshad Warsi must have been really sad on hearing this news. Already he has enough things to cope up with! Remember we reported about Arshad being hurt as Akshay Kumar has replaced him in ‘Jolly LLB 2’? Now this ban on his movie in Punjab would surely add up to his disappointment.

Everyone is wondering as to why the movie is banned even though it is a romantic comedy, which is free from any abusive language. Let us see what Punjab Government has to say on this.

A press statement from Punjab government revealed that

“The Punjab government has suspended the exhibition of the film with immediate effect for two months and during such suspension, it shall be deemed to be uncertified film in the state. The decision was taken keeping in view the prevailing strong resentment among the Valmiki community about some objectionable references to Maharishi Valmiki in the film.”

The thing is that even though the movie falls under the comedy genre, the government just doesn’t like some jokes in it. Now if the government itself doesn’t like it, how can it allow the people of the state to watch it? A spokesperson of State Government stated

“The decision was aimed at keeping intact the hard earned peace and social harmony in the state as the screening of this film may invite massive protests.”

Punjab Government seems to be extremely particular about the selection of movies to be screened in the state. Other films such as Santa Banta Pvt Ltd, Nanak Shah Fakir, The Messenger Of God, Sadda Haq, MSG-2 The Messenger and Aarakshan were also banned since the Government felt they aren’t apt for the Punjab audience.
