A plane that was carrying around 80 people, including Brazilian football team Chapecoense has crashed in Colombia.
Confirmation of the same has been given by Medellin International airport; journalists and squad members on board are seriously injured on the way to the city.
As of now, the casualties haven’t been confirmed yet, but just one thing is known i.e. there were 9 crew members and 72 passengers on board.
The emergency and management team at Jose Maria Cordova airport in Colombia gave the statement that were few survivors, but it is not yet known as to who are the ones.
Later, airport authorities confirmed that the plane carried football team Chapecoense from Brazil.
The team was going to play Copa Sudamerica finals in Medellin against Atletico Nacional on 30th of November. This plane, a British Aerospace 146 short-haul aircraft started from Brazil’s Sao Paulo at 3.35 pm and made a stop at Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Eastern Bolivia. Then it set off for Colombia. As per the statement from Jose Maria Cordova airport, a plane travelling from Santa Cruz declared emergency owing to electrical failures at 10 pm between La Union and La Ceja.
The statement read
“At the moment we know that the disaster happened in Cerro Gordo the municipality of La Unión and that there were 72 passengers and nine crew aboard, including the football team Chapocoense Real. There are reported to be six survivors.”

According to the El Tiempo newspaper, there were around 22 players from squad on board and 22 football journalists; no names have been mentioned yet. The team’s official Facebook page shared a video of the team preparing for their flight;
Rescuers and ambulances are on the way, but the cause of the crash isn’t clear yet. Some assume that the weather was bad.
A state of emergency has been declared and already, 2 Colombian airforce helicopters are searching for the survivors. 30 police, fire and Red Cross vehicles had been deployed to the site.
