There is no doubt about the fact that demonetization has claimed many lives. Every other day, we hear news about people committing suicide or dying due to those long bank queues.
One more incident has come to light wherein Rakesh Chand (54), the CRPF Jawan who survived a terror attack in Baramulla in Kashmir even after being shot for 5 times, killed himself with a handgun, owing to shortage of cash. He was shot 5 times in the chest during Baramulla attack in Kashmir in the year 1990 and this in turn had caused heart problems.

According to reports, Chand, who retired as a head constable, would visit the Tajganj branch of SBI everyday for withdrawing money for medical treatments, but wasn’t successful in doing so. He was so depressed and clueless, that he had no way but to kill himself. Yes, he actually shot himself dead at home on Saturday morning.
Sushil Kumar, Chand’s son stated
“My father urgently needed money for the treatment of his heart condition. He used to receive a monthly pension of Rs 15,000, of which he needed Rs 6,000-7,000 for doctor’s visit and medicines.”
He further said
“He also wanted to start treatment for depression because for the past month he had been feeling low because of money problems. After repeatedly trying to withdraw money, he was forced to take his life.”
As of now, Chand’s body has been sent for postmortem.

Don’t know how far this demonetization move will go; however, 1 thing is clear that it is becoming a very serious matter these days and quick actions have become necessary now.
