A week after Dangal’s release, it fell into the trap of a controversy. We had already reported that the real life coach of Phogat sisters, PR Sondhi was hurt since the movie portrayed him in negative light. There were also reports that he might take legal action against the makers. He even demanded an apology from Aamir Khan.
Girish Kulkarni, who plays the role of PR Kadam in the movie is shown in bad light and this hasn’t gone down well with the real life coach.
Sondhi said “There were five other coaches. There were wrestling officials and media. If anything like it had happened, it must have been picked by media.”
He hoped that Aamir Khan would call him and give him clarifications about this.
However, Aamir Khan has finally responded to this matter; he says that some parts were fictionalized, but that happens with every biopic. Then, talking about Mahavir Singh Phogat being locked up during the final match Aamir said;
“No, he was not actually locked up in the room. Like in every biopic, some bit of fiction is added but the spirit of the story of Mahavir, Geeta and Babita is intact. There may be a few incidents here and there which may not have happened exactly that way but in essence it is their story.”
